I don't get it.
Randy,
Bush's legitimacy depends upon his status as a "War President" (his words). Only as long as people are filled with fear can their attention be diverted from the burgeoning deficit, and a myriad of other domestic, and international problems which have been neglected, mishandled, and in many cases deliberately made worse by the Bush Administration.
MainStreamMedia is transfixed on the little coin that Bush seems to have pulled out from behind his ear - they wait for the next big story - some type of terrorist event, or mass killing in Iraq - because it's sexier than the slow festering economy which Bush's economic policies have created.
If troops returned from Iraq the nation could once again focus on the economy like a laser beam, and people would realize what a huge waste that war has been - and how Bush has used the war to act against the best interest of the middle class.
Thus the upcoming congressional elections will actually be a referendum on the continuation of the Iraq war not only until Bush leaves office, but long after.
